“When a doctor suggests to the family that someone they love be referred to hospice the only conceivable thought that comes to their minds is “death”. How far from the truth this is. Words such as support, comfort, compassion, accessibility, truthfulness, thoroughness and caring are much more appropriate. This our family has found out since my mother-in-law became a hospice client.
From the moment our family was introduced to the Mercy Hospice staff that would be serving us, we were at ease. They each made it so easy to know what we would need to do to take care of Mom. The nurse helped to give me confidence in what I would need to do to take proper care of her and what to do in her best interest. The chaplain assured us of God’s love and His knowing what’s best for His children. She listened to Mom and was so attentive and kind. The social worker also put us at ease and made us feel very comfortable. She focused on Mom, as everyone does, which helps tremendously to put her at ease.
As caregiver, I just can’t say enough about the Mercy Hospice and Pallative Care agency. I always know that all it takes is a phone call and any question I have will be answered. I have been allowed to feel confident in what I do to take care of Mom.
So many “extras” are included when you are under hospice care, such as: prescription coverage, equipment, volunteers, nursing assistants and many more. It is so easy to face each day knowing that most everything will be taken care of – all one has to do is call and ask.
It has been such a blessing having all the staff of Mercy Hospice in our home. We truly feel as a united unit, we are able to take care of Mom and to make her daily life easier.
Because of the personal experience I have had with Mercy Hospice, each staff member has a special place in my heart. My prayer for each of them is that God’’s richest blessings will continue to pour out over them and all they do.”
